Italy will stay out from Nuclear!
We did it!
We succeed, I can not believe of the unbelievable results.
The full majority of Italians has clearly chosen a clear NO to the nuclear energy.
Italy from today will stay OUT OF NUCLEAR.
And, God willing, we will remain out forever.
The sovereign people have decided, along with other very important things, that in this country we will not build any nuclear power plant.
I am really happy that the country has recovered, somehow, common sense, harmony, all beyond stupid political bickering and partisan alignments of non-existent parties.
People want to return directly to participate to decisions so important for the country, decide our own future, decide using direct democracy.
There are a few things, but essential things, in which a private company cannot and should not put the bill and that if a state is really and truly a Nation MUST be able to provide those… Continue reading
The 10 points in the nuclear debate (Part 1)
In Italy next weekend there will be a referendum, a referendum on a series of questions including the return of Italy to nuclear power.
For more than two years the government was crazy in this direction, then the disaster of Fukushima happened in Japan, and everything stops.
After the atomic bomb, Japan is once again the lamb on the nuclear altar. I saw what happened at Chernobyl and my heart cry to imagine what will happen to the Japanese population, to childrens, future childrens of such beautiful country.
Thanks to Japan now the whole world re-thinks the matter, it raises questions that were gone in the banal everyday life.
Faced with evidence of the risk inherent in nuclear many European countries, led by Germany, have decided to stop their nuclear programs. The old plants will be abandoned at the end of the life-cycle and no new power plant will be… Continue reading
The 10 points in the nuclear debate (Part 2)
(6) Twenty-five years after Chernobyl you see exactly what can happen, there are not additional considerations or studies, or more or less plausible hypotheses. The answers are in front of everyone, are in the eyes of girls of twenty, children that were exposed to disaster, survivors who now give birth to sons and daughters suffering from leukemia or thyroid cancer or hydrocephalus, or worse.
It is not over yet, illnesses and deaths will continue. And who brings out the numbers and statistics and claims that, in short, the dead were not that many, and that maybe other choices would be worse… I would like them to look at their eyes.
The area will no longer be habitable and for how long who knows what, maybe forever, but for sure for hundreds of years, and this on a radius of 300 km from the nuclear plant exploded.… Continue reading
5 stars movement in Italy, piazza in Spain, war in Africa
In Spain, since several days thousands of young “indignados” came together and sleep in the streets protesting the economic and social situation prevailing in the country.
North Africa is in full revolution.
In Greece, after weeks of chaos is now reigning a kind of unreal peace, partly dictated by the resignation, probably is calm before the storm.
Facing such indebtedness, facing social policies that can not afford more cuts, facing a predatory economy whose only and last purpose is money, facing a political class of inept and incompetent whose only interests are power and privileges, the path traced by our grandparents and democracy is at stake.
If Europe wants to exist, beyond geography, must solve problems of enormous gravity, which will soon burst Euro.
The values and strength of Nations are compromised in a clear rejection of the famous “social pact”.
A whole generation is cut off from society, a… Continue reading
Overpopulation and globalization between dreams and nightmares
Few posts ago I had already addressed the issue of overpopulation of 7 billion human beings on this planet. Today, with the excuse to present the beautiful and biting cartoon by Nina Paley, I want to consider again overpopulation and migration: human beings are moving, we always had, moving out from areas with few resources, little hope, no chance of a decent future.
I was listening the madness on television concerning the emergence related to few thousand of North African refugees in Italy and the reactions of the European Union.
I was wondering about the meaning today of a real multinational force which is usually invoked in refuges cases.
I would say that today the sense of UN, like was designed, is none. Beside that I actually wonder if the way to go is really the one of a global government. Think about it: global laws, global finance, global… Continue reading
Mercantilism vs Globalization vs War
The past two centuries were characterized by mercantilism, which was adopted almost worldwide.
What is mercantilism? The main concern of nations, after the discovery of America and the great feaver of gold and silver brought by the Spanish galleons, was that the amount of gold to mint coins was not sufficient to ensure a performance.
There were still many people who believe the wealth of a nation depended on the amount of gold and silver stored in the state banks.
This madness resulted in an economic policy that gives priority to the balance of payments: in short, states fight to export more goods than it imports; so that in the coffers it will add more and more precious metals.
Must take into account the fact that other nations were inspired by the same desire.
This, in turn, results in the first push toward the wars of conquest in America, Asia… Continue reading
Representative democracy
The essence of representative democracy, is that those who hold power are elected by the people through a tool that allows greater participation.
Another point is that elected officials are subject to the law, and that their activity is not free but controlled by specific institutions.
The premise of democracy is, therefore, that power is managed in the interests of everyone, and is able to mediate between citizens and citizen groups. In Italy we have already problems with the simple point I wrote above, but, nevertheless the power of financial system is subtracted to any democratic control, no one has ever taken any measures or has informed the public of this fact.
I’m totally disgusted about that, even after the huge financial crisis no one in Europe or USA have taken drastically the decision to tax each financial transaction in the financial system.
Employee cannot avoid to pay tax because they… Continue reading
Earthquake in Japan as a natural part of life
The Earth is alive, always has been, thank God, and sometimes reminds us of it.
So we are surprised, we are forced to remember.
To say that, after the disaster in Japan, is something really strong, and my utmost respect and condolences go to the proud Japanese people and to their deaths. People that for centuries have learned that earthquakes are a natural part of the cycle of life.
Today we see death and destruction of course, but it is only thanks to that if we can survive here on this planet.
Probably someone know already that I have a degree in geology, I spent several years of my life studying the Earth and its rock and minerals.
Today, thinking to Japan, trying to find a meaning to all destructions, I fell that I want underline that a planet geologically inert without movement, without tectonics, just dead, just a rock… Continue reading
Crime and production in globalization
Multinational corporations are the natural evolution, the logical consequence of the globalization of economics and finance, and as such are certainly producing wealth.
We must keep in mind the economic conditions, the opportunity to expand their operations abroad, not only as a commercial activity, but also as production activities.
Although transnational corporations already existed in the early twentieth century, the phenomenon of multinational becomes solid after World War II.
The transnational business was consolidated especially with the removal of customs barriers as a result of the GATT first and WTO later.
Our kind of business model and capitalism requires: increasing size, rationalization of costs, increasing specialization, extreme flexibility and rapidity to adapt production patterns.
The phenomenon was of massive proportions in the seventies, for example in Italy Fiat was able to capture all the other domestic factories of cars becoming the sole producer.
The same happened in all other countries… Continue reading
Japan Whaling Season ended thanks to Sea Shepherd
I couldn’t believe this news few day ago, and I was so happy.
Beside once more is the demonstration that just with strong resistance, strong fighting, strong determination, with no compromise results can be achieved.
I respect all Japanese fellows of course, I love also sushi but this old story and excuse could not last.
Each year Japan is fishing hundreds of whales in the name of ‘scientific research’ in Antarctica, where the hunt to whales for commercial purposes is prohibited since 1986.
This is just illegal, outrageous and dishonorable.
Japan has so far suspended the annual whales hunt program’s in the waters of the Antarctic because of the actions of a protest by environmentalists, the fleet could also return home.
The ship Nisshin Maru has suspended operations with effect from 10 February for security reasons and they are studying the situation, not excluding the possibility to stop the mission… Continue reading
7 billions on this planet
And so we got to seven billions.
And you can not say that we arrived here without noise, but the noise is something of the past, one billion more one billion less, now we talk every few years about a billion more, it becomes just a piece of news to report.
This news is not even a news and hardly attracts the attention when carelessly we are reading the newspaper at the bar one morning drinking coffee and stuffing with a croissant before entering in office.
I’m talking about a billion of human beings.
Until a few years ago I remember well we were ‘only’ six, just enough time to imagine them and here they are.
One billion of children, young people who must find their place in the world, people to feed, to get dressed; and obviously they consume, they destroy resources, they produce garbage.
I go back, I… Continue reading
Cancun 2010 – once more nothing have been done
Perhaps the fault lies with the fact that we are too busy in Italy to stand behind recent political vicissitudes, buried in our usual Italian swamp. The fact remains that Italian newspapers have given very little space, not to say anything, at the World Summit on the environment that has just taken place the last few days in sunny Cancun, Mexico.
I have written a post last year about World Summit on the environment held in Copenhagen 2009, unfortunately I have little to say in effect, anything to add regretfully; another year has passed and nothing has been done.
Running on the train towards the abyss I must say that every day I have hope, and I try to find reasons for hope, reasons to go forward, to give birth to a son, a family… then you see the facts, the reality and its factuality.
When I was a child,… Continue reading
Is Obama a traitor of his own electors?
Here we are, this issue definitely can not pass with indifference in my blog.
I have said nothing regarding the nuclear issue and the Obama’s insane decision to go on that way, but this new one can not pass.
Obama hopes to collect money selling licenses to drill petrol and to gain consent for the package-climate, soon to vote in the Senate, the America will revert to find oil in its seas, will revert to use Nuclear.
Is this the green revolution Obama promised?
Is this the down of a new Era? Come on!
Barack Obama announced the end of a moratorium survived for twenty-year, not even George W. Bush was able to go on with this idiocy.
From Delaware until the coasts Central of Florida, saving the mythical ”Keys”, the US shall grant freedom of drills.
Luckily he avoids devastating the jewel of Bristol Bay, but it will effect… Continue reading
Freedom for the Tokyo two
UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) has lined up with Greenpeace against the Japanese Government for infringement of human rights in the question of the two activists, Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki, arrested in May 2008 and contributed to shed light on uncomfortable interweaving public funds, scientific research and hunting whales in arctic.
The Tokyo two, in fact, they have discovered the contraband of quintals of canned meat of this exceptional marine mammal from governmental scientific missions in icy waters of the north of the world.
When the business, however, was placed under the spotlight media, no investigation was opened.
Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki are risking 10 years in prison, the two activists have acted aware that their actions were in public interest while trying to expose of misappropriation of whale meat in industry of hunting whaling financed with public funds.
In addition, they have cooperated with the… Continue reading
Summit is going on in Copenhagen
Summit is going on in Copenhagen… all looks so hard… but as many great men said before… if we think that a single man or a small group of men can not change things, things will never change.
The only way to escape the impasse showing up at the summit is to start to think like WE HAVE DONE BEFORE when all the biggest democratic nations TOGETHER during IIWW decided that the only way to win was to focus all the efforts… all the resources… all the intelligence… all the big brains… all the economic power AGAINST EVIL.
Now there is not an easy target to shot at but we must force our self to not be egoistic and share the problem. There is not tomorrow, there is not a second chance, there is not maybe, there is no way to postpone anymore… now we are at WAR!
Just we… Continue reading
Victims of Bhopal – 25 years ago
I felt that I could not avoid to talk, I could not avoid to write on my blog about this sad anniversary and remember this tragedy once again, this human stupidity.
On December 3, 1984, in the night, a plant of Union Carbide Corporation in Bhopal, India released 32 tons of methyl isocyanate, a highly toxic gas.
The official toll of this disaster was initially of about 8,000 victims.
A more realistic figure is about 18,000 deaths in the first two weeks, and estimates that another 8,000 people have died from poisoning and related diseases.
The cause of the leakage of gas is linked to the reaction between methyl isocyanate and water, the reaction produced gas and increased the pressure of the tank that and finally won the resistance of the exhaust valves, releasing the toxic cloud.
The theories about how the water entered the tank differ.
That night some… Continue reading
Copenhagen – 2009 – I have no children
Here we are.
Yes here we are… decisions must be taken… the global meeting is about to start.
I have to say that I’m not optimistic, as you know we have a long history and a long memory, behind us and too many times we saw history to repeat itself. The fact that history repeat itself it means one thing, one thing only, that we as human being have not understand our mistakes and we are keep going doing it.
I have a degree in geology so I can say that I know something about our planet, about life in the past ages, about who was ”in charge” before us.
I’m not scared about our planet, I’m not scared that many animals and plants will soon be extinct forever, I’m not scared that resources will be just not enough for all of us.
All it is following laws definitely behind… Continue reading
Poison in China and brainless human
What kind of country, what kind of men allow their children to be poisoned from factories and to receive 20 times more lead in their blood then normal ?
What kind of civilization endorse just money as unique and absolutely value ?
What kind of parents can stay watching their baby dieing slowly ?
Actually it does not surprise me, it is just another brick in the wall, just another step, probably just the beginning of the end.
It is always been said that men are the supreme creatures in the universe because probably through them the universe, maybe god, is aware of itself and became conscious.
It is always been said that the brain is the key of the evolution, the tool, the way, the feature, for future evolution.
Sometimes should be useful to remind that no one, but just us, said that a kind of brainless human is the future.
Are we all insane?
Hi there…
I just want to remind to all my fellows Italians just a couple of things on the nuclear issue.
On 8 November 1987 three referendums are held on power plants and two on the justice system: a large majority of Italians rejects nuclear energy.
In light of the results, the Government suspends work on the Trino 2 plant (Vicenza), closes down the Latina plant, and controls the safety of the Caorso (Piacenza) and Trino 1 plants, plus the feasibility of reconverting the Montalto di Castro plant (Viterbo).
I would like to see some respect, the referendums are NOT EXPIRED, there was not an expiration date like a bottle of milk on it.
Please note:
- The power plants (at least 4) that the Italian Government want to build now, will be ready in not less then 20 years and will not be build with the last and safest… Continue reading
A craftsman with his tools
The idea itself of capitalism is crumbling, there is no fault, there is no demon, there is not someone to blame or to hang, it simple does not work anymore.
We have now shouted at a sort Financial Ghost as a responsible, a way of make money far from the real and good business economy. We still are believing that the way of our fathers and grandfathers is still working. It does not.
The pillars of capitalism are basically two; first of all a Company must have access to infinite primary resources in order to produce all goods that the customers demand will require and second the reason for what the company exist is the profit, only the profit.
It is easy to see how the pillars are wrong and how fragile is our economic system, it looks like the famous Salvador Dali’s paintings where Elephants are walking on super… Continue reading
True differences
Are we really that different?
Accept different cultures and live together in peace depends mainly on what we understand. Begin to think deeply about this, we are all men, all different from each other, but all the same with regard to fundamental rights. Perhaps this is a simple and obvious point of view, but this is how things are.
It is the freedom or the family of another man more important than yours?
It is the home or the work of another man more important than yours?
It’s life or health of another man more important than yours?
No, I’m not gonna tell you that we must sacrifice, sacrifice, or be martyrs, we are serious.
We are accustomed to think and to assign values ??given the size and duration of our life, the scale of our perceptions, but this is just a point of view and does not mean that… Continue reading
