The 10 points in the nuclear debate (Part 1)
In Italy next weekend there will be a referendum, a referendum on a series of questions including the return of Italy to nuclear power.
For more than two years the government was crazy in this direction, then the disaster of Fukushima happened in Japan, and everything stops.
After the atomic bomb, Japan is once again the lamb on the nuclear altar. I saw what happened at Chernobyl and my heart cry to imagine what will happen to the Japanese population, to childrens, future childrens of such beautiful country.
Thanks to Japan now the whole world re-thinks the matter, it raises questions that were gone in the banal everyday life.
Faced with evidence of the risk inherent in nuclear many European countries, led by Germany, have decided to stop their nuclear programs. The old plants will be abandoned at the end of the life-cycle and no new power plant will be… Continue reading
The 10 points in the nuclear debate (Part 2)
(6) Twenty-five years after Chernobyl you see exactly what can happen, there are not additional considerations or studies, or more or less plausible hypotheses. The answers are in front of everyone, are in the eyes of girls of twenty, children that were exposed to disaster, survivors who now give birth to sons and daughters suffering from leukemia or thyroid cancer or hydrocephalus, or worse.
It is not over yet, illnesses and deaths will continue. And who brings out the numbers and statistics and claims that, in short, the dead were not that many, and that maybe other choices would be worse… I would like them to look at their eyes.
The area will no longer be habitable and for how long who knows what, maybe forever, but for sure for hundreds of years, and this on a radius of 300 km from the nuclear plant exploded.… Continue reading
Earthquake in Japan as a natural part of life
The Earth is alive, always has been, thank God, and sometimes reminds us of it.
So we are surprised, we are forced to remember.
To say that, after the disaster in Japan, is something really strong, and my utmost respect and condolences go to the proud Japanese people and to their deaths. People that for centuries have learned that earthquakes are a natural part of the cycle of life.
Today we see death and destruction of course, but it is only thanks to that if we can survive here on this planet.
Probably someone know already that I have a degree in geology, I spent several years of my life studying the Earth and its rock and minerals.
Today, thinking to Japan, trying to find a meaning to all destructions, I fell that I want underline that a planet geologically inert without movement, without tectonics, just dead, just a rock… Continue reading
Japan Whaling Season ended thanks to Sea Shepherd
I couldn’t believe this news few day ago, and I was so happy.
Beside once more is the demonstration that just with strong resistance, strong fighting, strong determination, with no compromise results can be achieved.
I respect all Japanese fellows of course, I love also sushi but this old story and excuse could not last.
Each year Japan is fishing hundreds of whales in the name of ‘scientific research’ in Antarctica, where the hunt to whales for commercial purposes is prohibited since 1986.
This is just illegal, outrageous and dishonorable.
Japan has so far suspended the annual whales hunt program’s in the waters of the Antarctic because of the actions of a protest by environmentalists, the fleet could also return home.
The ship Nisshin Maru has suspended operations with effect from 10 February for security reasons and they are studying the situation, not excluding the possibility to stop the mission… Continue reading
Freedom for the Tokyo two
UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) has lined up with Greenpeace against the Japanese Government for infringement of human rights in the question of the two activists, Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki, arrested in May 2008 and contributed to shed light on uncomfortable interweaving public funds, scientific research and hunting whales in arctic.
The Tokyo two, in fact, they have discovered the contraband of quintals of canned meat of this exceptional marine mammal from governmental scientific missions in icy waters of the north of the world.
When the business, however, was placed under the spotlight media, no investigation was opened.
Junichi Sato and Toru Suzuki are risking 10 years in prison, the two activists have acted aware that their actions were in public interest while trying to expose of misappropriation of whale meat in industry of hunting whaling financed with public funds.
In addition, they have cooperated with the… Continue reading
