Nuraghi and Sardinia

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, a part of Italy with regional autonomy granted by the Italian law.
The outstanding Nuraghi named ‘Su Nuraxi’ is an important nuragic archaeological site near the town of Barumini in Sardinia. It was inscribed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997.
The typical Nuraghi is situated in a panoramic spot and has the shape of a truncated conical tower, somehow is resembling a beehive.

The Nuraghi structure has no foundations and stands only by virtue of the weight of its stones, which may weigh as much as several tons.
Some Nuraghi are more than 20 metres in height.
Today, there are more than 8,000 Nuraghi in Sardinia, although it has been estimated that they once numbered more than 30,000.
Nuraghi are most prevalent in the northwest and south-central parts of the island
I was there just for one week many years ago, and no serious camera with me, the landscape is amazing, with canyons, deserts, deep bays and inlets surrounded by smaller islands. I do need to visit again Sardinia is definetely another place with enormous photographic potential, really a beautiful land.
