Aung San Suu Kyi will run in Myanmar’s next elections
Aung San Suu Kyi will be back to politic.
Actually she has never stopped even during the arrest, although remained segregated at home, her life was and it is a symbol of hope for democracy in Myanmar.
In 1990 there was a huge victory of her party, but was never recognized by the regime.
The National League for Democracy led by Aung San Suu Kyi, has announced its participation in upcoming elections and was then formally registered.
The party was banded in 2010 after a boycott of the last November’s vote.
The elections was expected in the Asian country for twenty years, but the National League for Democracy to protest an electoral law which required the removal from the lists of dissidents who were arrested, did not participate.
Aung San Suu Kyi was at the time, still under house arrest and in case of election National League for Democracy would have been forced to expel from its ranks the Nobel Prize.
After the presidential approval of further amendments to the electoral law, which at least partially satisfy the opposition, things have changed for the better. For this reason the National League for Democracy will run in the next general elections, a truly historic event in the history of the last sixty years of military regime that occupies and governs in his own convenience Myanmar.
Thein Sein’s government has eliminated the restrictive measure and fixed the only requirement of “preserving” the Constitution by the parties. Now the political movements are only required to “respect” the Constitution, this should lead to more dialectical and political criticism.
After twenty years from the previous victory, and after fifteen years of house arrest Aung San Suu Kyi returned to freedom last year, and now she return officially to politic.
The Nobel Peace Prize has already made ??it clear that she intends to stand for elections that could be held early next year and she also welcomed the willingness to “change” presented by the new president.
