Si Phan Don
Si Phan Don means 4,000 islands and is a region of Champasak Province in southern Laos.
There is not much to do here but definitely is a nice nature and environment. It is a very good place where to find peace and relax.
The sunsets and the photo opportunities were marvelous.

The Mekong River flows through the province and, just above the Cambodian border, is broken by the Khone Falls, a large number of rapids which make this section impassable to river traffic.
During French colonial times a railway was completed in 1924 for transportation across the rapids in Si Phan Don. It was primarily used to transport gold from Laos to France.
Timber was also logged in the region, and was shipped to France to build exquisite palaces. However, instead of using the railway, the timber was dragged across Done Khone with the help of elephants.
In recent years Si Phan Don has become a tourist destination for backpackers.
The three principal islands that have been developed to cater to tourists are Don Det, Don Khon and Don Kong.
Most of the lodging available on Don Det and Don Khon consists of simple, family run bungalows. Don Khong is the regional seat of administration for the area.
Recently electricity poles and wires have been installed on three islands Don Det, Don Kon, and Don Som.
This makes a total of 4 islands in the area with full time electric service. In addition several large microwave radio towers have been erected and should help to ensure improved communications in the area.
