Apple policy

Posted: February 28th, 2010 – 3:42 pm

Apple has discovered that three of its suppliers, last year, have made them work 11 children in the manufacture of iphone, iPod and Macintosh computers.
The discovery has emerged as a result of a survey of the suppliers.

Apple has discovered three plants that have taken as workers 15, in countries where the minimum age for work is 16 years The company does not have the names of suppliers involved, says only to have checked the plants that are found in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, the Czech Republic, the Philippines and the United States. The Apple has also discovered 3 cases of false documents to hide recruitment of persons of age less than that prescribed in order to work.

But it does not end here, according to the report of the company in 60 installations the workers were exploited, working beyond the limits. It seam also that 24 other industrial partners, however, have paid the workers less than the minimum wage and 57 have not paid the bonus.
The code of apple provides the maximum 60 hours of work for the week, and at least a day to rest.
The company also said it has stopped trading relations with at least one of these suppliers, having found repeated violation to address problems.
I personally agree with Apple and this policy, many other westerns companies should follow this example and stop all the relationship with not trustworthy suppliers.
Together with technology, know-how and capitals solid westerns company should also export human rights, workers rights, environmental safe standards and security standards.
It is not just matter of profit, too much is at stake and we all are on the same boat.
