Claviere, geology and photos
Claviere is a small municipality along the Alps located 80 km west of Turin, on the border with France.
Basically a well equipped and organized skiing village.
I have a good friend of mine in Claviere and quite often we are going out together visiting places of geological interest because we were companions at University during my studies.
One of the most interesting geological tracks near Claviere is the path going to “Colletto Verde”.
Just on top is preserved an ancient and completed sequence of the so called ‘Alpine Green Stones’.
It start from ultramafic rock then we have mafic… Continue reading
Roero’s trails
Back on Roero trails then, finally I was there again but this time I was taking photos with my new Canon 450D. You can see immediately the difference in quality of the digital images, there is no match at all compared with the old works and pictures.
The basic element in the Roero’s landscape along those trails we decided to follow, is the geological formation ‘Le Rocche del Roero’.
As you can see in some photo some huge erosional patterns dominate the hills, they were caused by Tanaro river when it diverted its course 250.000 years ago. This… Continue reading
Turin’s long walks
I love to go for long walks along the historical center of Turin.
I try to get used to find special things in normal places that I see very day.
Art, at the end, is in the eyes of the photographer.
In this portfolio of Turin there is a miscellaneous collection of pictures and images taken during my walks testing and learning how to use my Canon 450D at its best.
We start from ‘Mt. dei Cappuccini’ where the view of Turin is magnificent and where is possible to admire the symbol of the city called ‘Mole Antoneliana’. It was… Continue reading
Turin’s snow
In 2010 we had a good winter in Turin with a lot of rain and some snow fall but nothing that could stop the city life.
Old people used to say that it is easy find misery under the water, but bread under the snow.
I was intrigued by the image of an orange umbrella, by several changes in the light, in the shadows, in the shape of thing covered by the white mantle, by my cat looking the snow from the window.
Just a matter of few hours, just an amazing a morning, few photos and all… Continue reading
Noli’s colors
Noli is a lovely and small medieval town situated in Liguria about 50 km from Genoa, Italy.
The picturesque town has interesting sights such as the remains of old towers, a castle, and Romanesque Churches.
In the 6th-7th century Noli was residence of a religious community and a baptistery in the area of the Church of San Paragorio.
Noli took part in the first crusade in 1097 A.D. from which gained good political and commercial benefits. In 1192 A.D. reached the complete communal autonomy kept until 1797.
It was the smallest one under the five “Maritime Republics” and always supported… Continue reading
Turin’s fireworks 24/6/2009
Every June on 24 in Turin we use to make fireworks and parties to honor the patron saint of the city ‘San Giovanni’. This is a common festival in many Italian’s cities each one has its own Patron to be proud of and each one will have the proper celebration day. Can not miss that opportunity for photos night time.
I was so happy and amazed by the potential of my new Canon 450D, is incredible what is possible achieve with a tripod and a high ISO sensors.
The digital revolution for sure has changed totally how I… Continue reading
Lugano
Quite often I had chance to visit Lugano and its mountain, in the south of Switzerland, in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, which borders Italy.
Lugano is surrounded by Alps, the homonym lake is 48.7 sq. Km, the town itself is just a bunch of Banks but as soon as you get out from city nice alpine landscapes and images are all over.
I was in Lugano in January testing my Canon 450D and paying visit to my friends that live there.
Each time that talk with them about politic I’m amazed discovering how it works democracy in… Continue reading
Sacra di San Michele abbey
Sacra di San Michele was one of the most famous Benedictine abbeys in northern Italy near Turin.
According to historians, in Roman times a military stronghold existed on the current location of the abbey, commanding the main road leading to Gaul from Italy.
It is one of the greatest architectonic buildings in Europe among those dating back to the Romanesque period.
Sacra di San Michele was founded between A.D. 983 and A.D. 987 as a result of the needs and the culture of the pilgrims of that time, and it soon became an important spiritual center and a… Continue reading
