First time in New York
After the college I visited New York in 1991 with one of my friend; we spent there a couple of weeks in a YWCA hostel in Manhattan. We do enjoy the city looking around, eating outlandish food, visiting museums, traveling in the all neighborhoods.
At that time I still was into dinosaurs so the American Natural History Museum in New York city was another lifetime dream after the one I had in London years before.
We entered into New Jersey hitchhiking and we were also too young so no one gave us something to drink or permit us to enter… Continue reading
Kom Ombo and Nile
Following images along the Nile we arrived in Kom Ombo, another magnificent archaeological site along the Nile river.
When the boat stopped by the light was still too strong, but not bad at all. I loved use the wide angle over there taking photos and losing myself behind columns or bas-reliefs.
As you can see in the photos the crocodile was held in especial honor by the people of Kom Ombo; and in the adjacent catacombs are occasionally found mummies of crocodiles and other sacred animal.
Decimus Junius Juvenalis, in his 15th satire, has given a lively description… Continue reading
Portland
Here I’m once again on the train, another one day trip from Boston, this time I got a train headed to Portland , the principal city of the Maine state.
I was interested to visit some lighthouses but I got lost and walked for miles before find my way out.
Anyway was a good day with no rain and a good light. I’m pleased with several of the photos I have done in Portland.
The construction of Portland Lighthouse began in 1787 at the directive of George Washington, and was completed on January 10, 1791.

Valley of the Kings – Colossi of Memnon – Temple of Hatshepsut
In a hurry, as always, here is the last day of the trip along the Nile, awoke at dawn to visit the Valley of the Kings.
We are on our arrival in the area greeted by twin statues of the two “Colossi of Memnon” which represent Amenhotep III in a seated position with hands resting on his knees.
In addition to some balloons already waiting for customers, I suppose, the rising sun, and was immediately a great image to be fixed.
Nearby, a few kilometers, spring up here in front of the complex of Deir el-Bahri, Valley of the Queens… Continue reading
Abu Simbel and Assuan
Due to a sandstorm our airplane was late and so we were forced to visit Abu Simbel not during a fresh morning but with 45 degree Celsius during a sunny afternoon; nevertheless was simply amazing.
Abu Simbel is an archaeological site comprising two massive rock temples in southern Egypt on the western bank of Lake Nasser about 290 km southwest of Aswan. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Nubian Monuments”.
The light for the photos in Abu Simbel due to the late hour was not great but can’t forget the images still in my… Continue reading
Salem
I was in Salem during a terrible raining day, actually I went there just for fun without expect anything special.
There is nothing special there as the whole town is just a place for play with tourists that have nothing better to do.
Nothing looks real and all the witches’ gadgets and shops make all feeling worst. Basically is like a Disneyland about witches.
It was quite hard to get good photos with the never ending rain but my wide angle lenses helped me with some good image.
Salem was founded in A.D. 1626 at the site of… Continue reading
Greek islands
In 1993 and 1997 I spent my holidays along Greek islands. The price of everything was still so convenient at that time withour euro and I spent months there enjoying life with my best friends.
The first trip was in several of the Cyclades islands, as geologist I could not miss Santorini isalnd of course. The second trip was in the famous island of Rhodes.
I was a student at University and also a backpacker traveling by ferry boat and spending few bucks per day in a tent camping, and every night was a party.
The Mediterranean Sea and the Continue reading
Back in New York
I can not believe that I’m another time in New York, my first journey was in 1991 for a couple of weeks, now is 2010. Many things have happened since then, nineteen years are already gone. Probably the truth is that I can not believe or accept that this time passed.
During my main travel in Boston and New England, I definitely could not miss a short trip of three days in New York.
I got the opportunity to refresh my mind, to enjoy the journey in New York with my Asian girlfriend, spend a nice week end and visit… Continue reading
Boston City
Boston is the capital and largest city in Massachusetts, one of the oldest cities in the United States, and the unofficial “Capital of New England”.
Boston is also the center of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston, home to 4.5 million people.
I spent there three weeks visiting my Asian girlfriend studying there, and I have to say that definitely is a nice city full of young students, nice place for living.
Boston was founded on A.D. 1630, by Puritan colonists from England.
The Puritans of the Massachusetts Bay Colony are sometimes confused with the Pilgrims, who founded… Continue reading
Cambridge and London
Cambridge was the first foreign city I have ever visited, I spent there one month in 1987 and I was just fifteen years old but I was also completely alone, and that was great.
Actually I went there in order to learn some English but there were too many Italians in the group and all in Cambridge was new and exciting.
It was my first disco, my first beers, my first travel, my first backpack, my first international call, my first broken heart.
The first photos I ever made myself on my own trip with a camera were here in… Continue reading
