Kom Ombo and Nile

Following images along the Nile we arrived in Kom Ombo, another magnificent archaeological site along the Nile river. When the boat stopped by the light was still too strong, but not bad at all. I loved use the wide angle over there taking photos and losing myself behind columns or bas-reliefs. As you can see in the photos the crocodile was held in especial honor by the people of Kom Ombo; and in the adjacent catacombs are occasionally found mummies of crocodiles and other sacred animal.     Decimus Junius Juvenalis, in his 15th satire, has given a lively description… Continue reading

Valley of the Kings – Colossi of Memnon – Temple of Hatshepsut

In a hurry, as always, here is the last day of the trip along the Nile, awoke at dawn to visit the Valley of the Kings. We are on our arrival in the area greeted by twin statues of the two “Colossi of Memnon” which represent Amenhotep III in a seated position with hands resting on his knees. In addition to some balloons already waiting for customers, I suppose, the rising sun, and was immediately a great image to be fixed. Nearby, a few kilometers, spring up here in front of the complex of Deir el-Bahri, Valley of the Queens… Continue reading

Abu Simbel and Assuan

Due to a sandstorm our airplane was late and so we were forced to visit Abu Simbel not during a fresh morning but with 45 degree Celsius during a sunny afternoon; nevertheless was simply amazing. Abu Simbel is an archaeological site comprising two massive rock temples in southern Egypt on the western bank of Lake Nasser about 290 km southwest of Aswan. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Nubian Monuments”. The light for the photos in Abu Simbel due to the late hour was not great but can’t forget the images still in my… Continue reading

Philae Island

We woke up at 5 am, at sunrise we were approaching the temple of Philae, a small island in the Nile River, definitely an amazing view. I did not expect that, really, probably Philae was the best surprise in my short trip along the Nile river. I jumped out from the small boat and started to take pictures in Philae with wide-angle lens and not only, the light was marvelous and so the result in the photos it quite pleased me. Philae was remarkable also for the singular effects of light and shade resulting from its position near the Tropic… Continue reading

El Cairo

I spent in el Cairo just few days visiting the Egyptian Museum and many others monuments, including the pyramids nearby in Giza. I do had the possibility to shot some photos but the time was really not enough for good pictures. I was prepared and used to the chaos of Bangkok where I lived for months but let me tell you el Cairo is even worst as one of the most polluted and chaotic city in the world. The photos and the images do not need description. el Cairo, which means “the triumphant”, is the capital and largest city of… Continue reading

Giza and Dahshur Pyramids

The landscape is so impressive that is hardly to realize that they are real. Everything went well the first day I was so happy to finally be able to admire something so great such as the Pyramids of Giza. Having an original idea for a good photo has not been easy. The images and photos of the pyramids of Giza are available throughout the world as thousands. How to take a shot? After the first day in Giza we moved to visit another famous group of pyramids in the Dashour desert . Here something strange happened, a very strange experience… Continue reading

Karnak and Luxor

I visited first Karnak and the day after Luxor, the view of these Egyptian temples was simply amazing, no words can describe the feeling to see all those columns above you, the finest decorations, the pictures, and the huge architectural development. I had the same feeling I had in Angkor Wat, in Cambodia, so humble man in front such greatness of Karnak and Luxor. Regretfully I was not alone and the time was tyrant especially to make photos so I did not spend there days like in Angkor, you should. I shot photos mainly with my wide angle, the only… Continue reading
