Turin, gathering of Alpini Corps 2011
We all spent three beautiful days in Turin, the Alpini Corps rallied in the city for their annual meeting, occupying peacefully and joyfully every park, every bed and every street.
More than 300,000 Alpini have poured into the city, plus those who wanted to see the rally.
A feast lasting three days where to eat and drink liters of wine.
The “Alpini” are the mountain troops of the Italian Army, born in 1872, originally created to protect Italy’s northern mountainous borders with France, Austria and Switzerland.
They are infantry troops specialized in war on mountainous terrain. The motto of the Alpini is: “Here, you will not pass”.
Their uniform is always adorned with a cap with a black feather, so they are also always called the “black feathers”.
During the Second World War, the Alpini fought alongside the Axis forces mainly in the Balkans and the Eastern Front, engaged in the line of Don in Russia suffered serious losses during the battle and a tragic retreat of winter 1942-1943.
Since then, the Alpini Corps are considered a very special army, loved, always close to the civilian population in case of natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods.
An Italian national entity you can rely on in case of need.
