First time in Bangkok

As soon as I came out from the airplane I was assaulted by the incredible heat and humidity of Bangkok.
Finally I was there, in Thailand, my one way ticket gone, and the lady that makes me start the long trip was waiting for me at the airport.

My English was not that good at that time and Thai-English language was absolutely worst then any of my thought.
With tunes involved in Thais speaking the distortion of English is remarkable and it takes time to get used to what the really want to say. Barely we could understand each other.

Anyway we moved to a cheap hotel in separate room in Bangkok and after few days, after a short visit of the capital, she already decided that probably I was not the rich one or the good one or whatever and so left me while we were in Samet island.

It was just the beginning of the story.

Thailand, Bangkok, Chao Phraya streams. Thailand, Bangkok, Vimanmek Teak Mansion, one of the biggest buildings in the world whole made by teak wood. It was built in 1868 and it was the Royal Residence during the first years of 1900. Thailand, Bangkok, area in the Dusit Palace complex.

Bangkok known in Thai as Krung Thep or city of the Angels. The full Thai name of the city is listed by Guinness Book of Records as the world’s longest place name.
Bangkok with approximately registered 8,160,522 residents and with an estimated population (greater Bangkok) nearly 15 million people Bangkok is actually one of the main centers in all Southeast Asia.

Originally Bangkok was a small trading center and port community on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River.
After the fall in 1767 and the burning of Ayutthaya the old capital by the Burmese, Bangkok received the status of capital in 1768.
In the span of over two hundred years, Bangkok has been the political, social and economic center of not only Thailand but for much of South East Asia and Indochina as well.
Its influence in the arts, politics, fashion, education, entertainment as well as being the business, financial and cultural center of Asia has given Bangkok the status of a global city.

Bangkok is now a mix of Thai, Chinese, Indian, Buddhist, Muslim and Western cultures.
As the city expanded on the outskirts, the inner city has nowhere to grow but up. The city has a registered 1,000 skyscrapers. This does not include hundreds of new buildings predicted as part of the construction boom in 2007 and the coming years.
From 1985 to 1996, Thailand experienced the world’s highest growth rates and underwent an economic transformation, Bangkok went through dramatic changes.
In the city continues to lack a green belt development, resulting in massive housing projects along the suburbs.
However, in recent years, there has been a stronger voice towards preserving the environment containing population within the city.
The recent construction of the elevated second-level, third-level and fourth-level expressways, many tunnels and flyovers, BTS and MRT systems, four new SRT lines and BRT Bangkok has eased some of the congestion along specific ways, but has done little to alleviate overall congestion.

As in many other Asian cities, the sale of illegally copied copyright-protected material, the sex industry, the overcharged commission based prices, the various tourists scams, can be found all over.
The rates for violent crimes such as murders and muggings are fairly low when compared to other large Asian and international cities.
During my 5 years in Thailand I visited Bangkok several times for different reasons, and each time the city welcomed me and never had any kind of trouble.
