- Internet forums could be described as a newsgroup allowing people to post messages and comment on other messages dedicated to a particular topic. Forums are governed by individuals, collectively referred to as staff, made up of administrators and moderators, which are responsible for the forums’ technical maintenance, and content policies.
Most forums have a list of rules that apply to users and often have preset exceptions. For example, in an IT forum any discussion regarding anything but computer programming languages may be against the rules, with the exception of a general chat section.
Forum rules are maintained and enforced by the moderation team. When rules are broken usually several steps are commonly taken: first a warning is usually given then if the offender repeats the offense a temporary ban is issued. Continuous harassment or systematic violation of rules of the site leads to a permanent ban. Definitely are the most serious communities online.

Inside a web ring you can surf from one website to another regarding the same topic that interests you, this is the main idea. To be a part of the web ring each site has a common navigation bar or a links set to the previous and next site. By clicking next or previous links repeatedly, the surfer will eventually reach the site they started at; this is the origin of the term web ring. However, the click-through route around the ring is usually supplemented by a central site with links to all member-sites; this prevents the ring from breaking completely if a member site goes offline.
